This proposal of a classification is affected by the phylogenetic work of Hosoya Tadatsugu and Araya Kunio. They found molecular phylogenetic relationships between Dorcus, Rhaetulus and Prosopocoilus. Allotopini are transferred to the subfamily Dorcinae. The eyes of Allotopus and Mesotopus are completely divided by a cantus. The females have a lot of similar morphological characteristics (Jean-Michel Maes).
